Limescale in the water supply of a village

Description of the problem and its negative consequences
In the village the supply of fresh water gets more and more unsufficent. Limescale clogged the pipes and the diameter decreased so much that in some parts of the village only very little water reached the household. DEYA was forced to take action. There were two common possibilities. Either change the whole pipesystem, which was not possible out of economic reasons, or try to locate the spots where the problem are the biggest and replace part of the pipes. This method is as well very expensive and bear the risc, not to find all parts with a problem and the problem would appear soon again.

Our solution
In one part of the village where the problem was very big and almost no water reached the customers, one 2" Merus® ring was installed. The pipe was checked before and the problems documented.

In which way the customer checked the results of the trial
Four month after the installation the pipe was opened again. The limescale had totally disappeared. The pipe was due to the Merus® technology complete cleaned, and the blank metal could be seen. The metal was as well totally clean and no spots of corrosion could be found.
Compared to the two classical methods of digging out the pipes and replace them, the solution of Merus® is a very cost efficent solution. In addition the Merus® solution is permanent, which the classical methods are not, as the experience shows from similar cases. It is to be expected, that after installing new pipes the problem with the lime scale would have appeared some years later. Now the watersupply for all clients in this area is again perfect. In all parts of the system is again enough pressure and capacity.
There are no data from the effects in the households in this area, because DEYA was interested to clean their own pipes and not the pipes of the connected houses. Nevertheless there were several positive comments from the clients in the community.
