Algae (test phase)

Algae are organisms which propagate under certain conditions, generally in stagnant water. In ponds, for instance, algae, under unfavorable conditions, may multiply to such an extent that other plants and animals are ousted. Algae also occur to an increasing extent in seawater, this frequently also being attributable to overfertilization. One favorite spot for such algae to settle is on ships' hulls which may, for instance, lead to increased fuel consumption.

Merus is used in such applications, in some cases with great success, with units developed specifically for this purpose. A large-scale trial is now planned on several ships to test to what extent the use of Merus can reduce or even stop the fouling up of ships' side walls by algae. If we succeed, the advantages for ship owners and the environment will be tremendous. The ships will need to be cleaned less frequently and, under certain circumstances, it will be possible to dispense with the use of toxic outer coatings. On this subject, we are seeking further partners who are interested in testing .
