A steam generator or distillation plant generates steam from water. This steam is required in many applications in industry. Very high temperatures are used in these machines which are frequently very large. Since a great deal of energy needs to be used to generate this steam, operators cannot afford scale deposits impeding heat transfer so that virtually all installations of this type are operated with specially conditioned water. This very low-mineral water is extremely aggressive so that corrosion also occurs in all of these steam generators after a short operating time.
